CFJ’s Immigration Legal Assistance Project provides free legal help with applications for permanent residence, employment authorization, family petitions, citizenship, and other immigration matters. Our staff and volunteers help clients understand the process, prepare the required forms and evidence, and take the legal steps available to them.

The Immigration Legal Assistance Project provides legal information, consultations, and help preparing immigration applications and supporting documents.
- Understand immigration options
- Apply for permanent residence and citizenship
- Apply for or renew employment authorization
- Submit family petitions
- Apply for permission to travel
- Renew or replace permanent resident cards
- Replace certificates of naturalization or citizenship
- Request immigration records and other government documents
- Apply for fee waivers when available
- Complete other immigration applications handled by the Project

Outcomes included permanent resident status, employment authorization, family petitions, document renewals, replacement citizenship documents, advance parole, and government-record requests.
Volunteer with the Immigration Project
You know how much evidence, accuracy, and timing matter in immigration cases. ILAP trains and supervises volunteers to help people prepare applications and supporting documents.
Volunteers interview clients, assist with immigration forms, organize supporting information, and may conduct legal research. CFJ staff attorneys provide training and supervision.
Volunteer attorneys give their time and skill. Donors make the work possible.
CFJ staff attorneys operate the clinic, train and supervise volunteers, review work, and provide representation in selected matters. Your gift helps keep reliable immigration assistance available to Los Angeles residents who could not otherwise afford an attorney.
