In L.A.’s eviction courts, most tenants face a confusing and often coercive legal process, without knowing their rights, where to get help, or what to expect. Over 50% of tenants facing eviction in L.A. County did not file an Answer – and 33% of cases end in a default judgment. That means thousands of people lose their homes without ever getting a chance to respond in court.

CFJ’s Housing Project steps in to change that. We provide legal information and volunteer attorney support, enabling tenants to navigate the court system and assert their rights.

This August, join our 2025 Housing Justice Campaign as we confront the eviction crisis in Los Angeles and the barriers tenants face in protecting their homes.

We invite you to Take Action for Housing Justice alongside us.
