CFJ Honors Community Leaders and Volunteers at 2026 Community Impact Awards

Honoring Community Leadership and Volunteer Service

CFJ presented the President’s Award to Colleen Hart, a longtime board member, former Board President, and creator of the Community Impact Awards. A veteran herself, Hart has taken a special interest in CFJ’s legal services for veterans.

Gary S. Greene, Esq., received the Community Leader Award. As Founder-Conductor of the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic, Greene brings members of the legal community together through music and supports CFJ and other charitable organizations. The reception featured a performance by Gary Greene, Esq. and His Big Band of Barristers.

Three volunteers received Community Impact Awards for their service to CFJ. Phillip A. Schwarz was recognized for his work with the Immigration Legal Assistance Project. Carmen Merino and Heather Scott were honored for their work with the Domestic Violence Project.

Their work reflects CFJ’s service model. Staff train and support volunteers who provide legal assistance to thousands of people each year.

An Evening in Support of Free Legal Services

During the program, a CFJ Directing Attorney shared a note a client left after receiving legal assistance:

“Please do not underestimate how much you touch people’s lives.”

Funds raised through the Community Impact Awards will support CFJ’s legal services for domestic violence survivors, immigrants, tenants, and veterans across Los Angeles.

Recognizing Board Leadership

The evening also recognized Wes Kennedy as CFJ’s incoming Board President, as well as CFJ’s incoming officers and continuing board members. CFJ thanked Immediate Past President Diane Kimberlin for her service as Board President.

CFJ thanks everyone who honored the award recipients and supported the event. Their participation strengthens CFJ’s ability to provide legal assistance to people who could not otherwise afford an attorney.
